Hello, this is Ken.
I can't stop shaking!
2010 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner!
How exciting, isn't it?
Today, I am going to give some tips to all enthusiasts who may or might come down to South Africa.
I tell you what. We Libero have already visited there three times within 2009.
Confederations Cup in June 2010.
Friendly match game Japan versus South Africa.
The draw at the end of last year 2009.
By the way, the season of South Africa in this June is winter.
So, don't forget to bring your jacket!
Now I am going to make today's blog into 3 parts;
1. How to get a tickets for the games.
2. Transport info in South Africa.
3. Accommodation info in South Africa.
You can't miss it!
1. How do I get tickets for the World Cup?
You can apply for them through FIFA official Web Site.
I'm not sure if they are still at sale or not.

Also, all your booked tickets can be collected from ticketing devices, which are located in all the major facilities such as airports, shopping centers, and somewhere around stadiums.
In the case of the Confederations Cup 2009, we got them from a machine in the airport by inserting my internet-registered credit card to it.

2. Local Transport Info
Suppose your base is at Johannesburg, I recommend you not to travel by public transport because it's such a long distance from Johannesburg to 3 major cities, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape town. I guess it might be OK with Durban by land.
What about other places? Public transport might be acceptable.
When we visited Port Elizabeth and Capetown, we used airlines.
But keep in mind that the flight tickets will be very expensive (about US$200-US$500 for one way) during the comp.
The below is the list of cheap airline companies (LCC). Of course, safety is ensured.
All the airlines available in South Africa.
【Major airlines】
South African Airline
British Airways
【Low Cost Carrier】

Otherwise, you can take use a taxi, a rent car, and a bus.
A taxi is very expensive. It costs about US$50 for one hour trip even after the comp.
Renting a car is still expensive, though it's convenient. However, sometimes you might get in trouble while you are driving in the city. So, be careful.
AVIS, Hertz, Europe Car are major companies that have their branches all the parts of South Africa.
AVIS, Hertz, Europe Car are major companies that have their branches all the parts of South Africa.
Also, Auto Europe is a rent-a-car booking agent website.
After all, I suspect that the high cost and the short number of vehicles owned will be hindrances.
When it comes to bus, they seem to be running around suburb area. But we've never used them. So I can't make any comments. Sorry.
Also, FIFA also provide emergency buses for supporters.
But it seems they can not reach Capetown or Port Elizabeth.
Us?
We are planning to BUY a used-car.
Here is a secret but it's better to purchase a car and sell it after the World Cup.
I guess it ends with cheaper than the cost of a rent car.
This is a popular way among European travelers.
We have already booked all the flight tickets (LCC) for Capetown, Port Elizabeth and Durban.
Additionally, in South Africa, you must speak English to survive every single procedure as well as booking flights, hotels etc thought you will be accustomed day by day.
The official language in South Africa is English. In some areas, it is not.
We'll see how it goes in the next World Cup in Brazil.

3. Accommodation in South Africa
As it is the case with above, accommodation is also expensive.
They may ask you to book at least 3 nights at a time and you might have no choice but to do so.
There might be a few cheap ones as well. But as you know, your safety is not guaranteed.
If you don't care money, just go to the booking website run by FIFA and Japanese company Dentsu.
As for us, we are going to stay in my friend's house in Johannesburg.
Finally, I will introduce another accommodation booking site.
Campus Accommodation
The accommodation facilities equipped with Universities of Johannesburg, Durban, and Capetown will also be open to public. There are 9000 rooms in there and it's easy to book them. But don't take it as cheap because of college. It costs at least US$100 for single and US$150 for double. They will provide you free shuttle between stadiums and the airport, so it's traveler-friendly.
That's all we know about 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa for now.
I thought nobody is writing about this kind of supporters-centered article, so I did it.
I don't think this is the best way of traveling coz everyone has their own style.

But I believe this is useful.
